4 Things to Consider When Diagnosing Your Car
Buying your car is one of the most exciting moments in your life. It gives you control over your schedules in life because you will not be waiting for a taxi or Uber anymore. You can go whenever you want, wherever you want.
It is why when you own a car, you must be able to take care of it so you can use it for a long time. If you know your way around your car, then chances are you know how to fix small issues and know what motor parts to buy for it.
That being said, here are four things to consider when diagnosing your car.
Observe fluid leaks
If you look under your car, most of the time, you will see fluids dripping under it. But do not be worried right away. It could just be water from the air-conditioning unit, but you might have a problem if you see a different colour.
Suppose you notice that it is slippery and clear. The chances are that your brake fluid might be leaking. If it is dark red, check your power steering or transmission fluid because it could be coming from there, and if it is black or amber, it is most likely engine oil.
Do not overlook screeches.
It is very hard for you to miss a screeching noise coming from your car, but it is important to determine where the screeches are coming from so you can diagnose it properly and buy the right motor parts.
When you are driving, and you hear screeches when you hit the brakes, it probably means that your brake pads are worn down and need to be replaced. If you accelerate and hear screeching, it’s most likely that your fan belt has a problem and needs replacing.
If you notice that you hear screeches when you take your car out of the driveway in the morning, it may just be the dew under your brakes that is wicking away. But if it continues, you should take a look at it to see what the real issue is.
Be attentive when it comes to your brakes.
You probably already know this, but your brakes are some of the most important parts of your car. So be sure to pay attention to it every time you will use your car and immediately check if you notice something is off.
If you feel that it is a bit springy when you step on it, then the brake lines must have air in them. Bleeding the brake lines will get rid of it.
If your brakes vibrate when you press them, then you could have worn down rotors. Check both the front and back rotors to see which of them are vibrating.
Check your battery from time to time.
It would be very hard for you to drive without a battery so check them also. If your headlights are already dim and take a few tries to start your car, then that is a pretty good sign that your battery is already low.
If you spot a white powder outside the battery, then the alternator could be overcharging your battery.
It is important to know how to diagnose your car, so you will know what motor parts to buy and to also help your mechanic in narrowing down the problem.
So be sure to remember these things when you do your car maintenance.
