Did you know that 54% of people are completely overwhelmed by the amount of clutter they own? And about 78% of them have no clue what they’re going to do with it all.

Your Mac is the same.

When you open your Mac up, your workspace should be clean and free of clutter; you should be organized and ready to hit the road running.

If it’s not in that state, and your Mac is unorganized and messy, then you need to know how to organize your Mac right now, so keep reading to find out how!

How To Organize Your Mac

The task of organizing and decluttering your Mac can seem intimidating, especially if the current state of your virtual workspace looks completely out of control.

So without further ado, here’s your list of tips and tricks.

1. Clean Up Your Desktop

Your desktop is the smiling face of your Mac; it’s the first thing you see when you log in, it should be a happy sight.

The first thing is first, organize all those loose files on your desktop. Create folders on your desktop for items that belong together, and start moving files into their appropriate locations.

Once you’ve done this, you should be left with a few folders that can be moved elsewhere on your Mac, leaving your desktop looking shiny and new.

2. Don’t Neglect The Downloads Folder

When you’re browsing the net or on certain messaging apps and you’re downloading images, files, and video clips, unless you’ve set it otherwise, these files will generally head straight to the downloads folder on your Mac.

Once you’ve completed your downloads for the day, head to the downloads folder and move these files straight away to the places, they’re meant to be in.

Leave your downloads folder looking slick for tomorrow.

3. Don’t Be A Hoarder

There are archive functions for a reason. Don’t hold onto documents for indefinite amounts of time because one day, you might need them unless, of course, they’re super important.

The fact is, if you haven’t accessed certain files within a few months, half a year, or even more than a year, then you likely don’t need them.

Don’t hold back on being relentless; delete those files, and clean out the recycle bin!

4. Remove Duplicate Files And Folders

The thing is, sometimes we click download twice. Or, once in a while, we manage to copy and paste an image without noticing it.

Unbeknownst to us, we’ve created a duplicate file problem on our Macs.

There is software that can help you sort this issue out, be sure to read the reviews before choosing which one works for you.

Get Organized, Stay Sane!

Knowing how to organize your Mac is only half the challenge; the hard part is following through and getting it done.

If you’re finding the task at hand too intimidating, then set aside smaller time frames over several days to get small portions done. Before you know it, your Mac will be like new, and you’ll be ready for optimum performance.
